Can I wear my jewellery in the shower?

The question on everyone's mind is "can I wear my jewellery in the shower?"

My answer? It all depends on what your jewellery is made from! I've created a little chart below which hopefully makes this super clear for you.

Is it costume jewellery? (cheap price point, made from base metals brass, nickel or copper and plated to look gold or silver) NO- Costume jewellery will tarnish, fade and most likely turn your skin green. It is not recommended to wear in the shower or whilst washing your hands. Costume jewellery will also tarnish your other jewellery if kept in the same jewellery box or bag.
Is it demifine jewellery? (made from gold fill, gold vermeil or sterling silver) YES- If it is made from gold fill or sterling silver. Neither of these metals will change colour in water.
NO- If it is gold vermeil. Vermeil is when a layer of gold is plated over silver, and although it is better quality than costume jewellery, the gold plate will eventually wear off over time.
Is it fine jewellery? (made from solid gold, platinum or paladium) YES- Fine jewellery is ok to wear in the water. *Note that if it is white gold, it will generally be plated with rhodium to make it look whiter. This will eventually wear off over time but as part of your jewellery maintenence, you should always contact the original designer to chat about replating and cleaning every 18months.

Zoë Alexandria Jewellery is made from sterling silver, gold fill or solid gold metals.
